Native New Yorker Lisa Aksen is a multi-disciplinary artist living and creating her work in San Francisco.
The paintings in this solo show represent expressions of nature and breath captured in time within layers of transparent pigments. The works illustrate strength, delicacy and deliberation in their final presentation that are then finished floating within frames as a ceremonial completion to honor each one. Her recent abstract paintings reflect the energy and mystery found in nature.
Painting has become a nature-based meditation practice. Her spiritual practice focuses on being present in daily meditations with nature. Nature is spiritual. She sees joy in the simple amazement of life. There is a knowing connection to the Self and the inner universe (energetic life energy) experienced in meditation. Sometimes it is quiet and she revels in that space. Other times it goes off into an energetic galaxy of motion. Both of those inform the spiritual presence of moving with pigment onto a surface.
